The crankshaft main bearing cap, also known as the bearing cap, is one of the key components of the engine. In engines, it is usually used to fix and support the engine crankshaft and is located at the bottom of the engine. After being equipped with a bearing bush, it can ensure that the crankshaft can rotate easily in the circumferential direction and limit the axial movement of the crankshaft. The most critical function of the main bearing cap is to withstand the cyclic alternating loads exerted by the engine when doing work to ensure that the engine works efficiently.

It seems like such a small component, but it plays an important role in the performance and life of the engine, affecting the normal operation and long-term reliability of the engine. Its important role is reflected in the following aspects:
① Fixing and supporting the engine crankshaft. It is installed below the crankshaft in the cylinder block to protect the crankshaft from the external environment, such as dust, impurities and foreign matter intrusion. It provides the necessary support and protection to withstand the powerful explosive force from the cylinder when working, and ensures that the engine crankshaft can rotate smoothly, providing a strong structural guarantee for converting the linear motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the crankshaft.
② Lubrication and cooling protection, through sealing design, it cooperates with the crankshaft bearing bush to effectively maintain the oil film formed around the main bearing, reduce the friction coefficient between metal parts, and prevent abnormal wear of the crankshaft and bearing bush. At the same time, it helps cool the engine crankshaft to ensure it is not damaged by overheating.

In terms of machining, we must focus on the roughness of the bolt bearing surface on the top of the shaft cover, the crankshaft, etc. Hole finishing allowance, total stop length tolerance guarantee, etc. Only when these design requirements are fully guaranteed can our seemingly small bearing cap exert its powerful function in the engine.
