QT900 – 6 Axle Housing Product Proves Internationally Advanced Casting Strength

The QT900 – 6 material axle housing product, which has undergone 14 rounds of tests and hundreds of schemes, has successfully been produced and rolled off the production line at Tonglin Foundry. This marks a major breakthrough for the company in the production process of this recognized technical highland.
As a non – standardized ultra – high – grade ductile iron with extremely strict performance requirements, the core difficulty of QT900 – 6 lies in meeting the extreme requirements of both ultra – high strength and good plasticity simultaneously:
  • Tensile strength ≥ 880 MPa (comparable to the strength of low – alloy steel);
  • Elongation ≥ 5.5% (significantly higher than the 2% required by the national standard for QT900 – 2 grade);
  • Yield strength ≥ 540 MPa;
  • Hardness HB 250 – 300.

It is generally believed in the industry that there is a trade – off between the strength and elongation of ductile iron. Achieving QT900 – level performance is already a major achievement in domestic casting technology. However, QT900 – 6 takes the elongation index a step further, and the technical difficulty of its stable mass production is self – evident. The product has an outline size of 1070×480×110 mm, a basic wall thickness of 10 mm, and a weight of 90 kg, which poses severe challenges to the solidification control and structural uniformity of large – size and thin – walled parts.

Faced with this technical peak, the technical team of Tonglin Foundry rose to the challenge. Relying on a strong R & D platform and profound process accumulation, they carried out systematic research: extensively consulted relevant patent documents at home and abroad, and fully absorbed cutting – edge technical achievements. In view of the performance requirements of QT900 – 6 and the structural characteristics of the axle housing (large size, thin wall), an original process route design was carried out. After 14 rounds of rigorous process iteration and optimization, and accumulated hundreds of different schemes for test verification, repeated verification and data accumulation were carried out on key links such as precise control of chemical composition, optimization of spheroidization and inoculation process, and regulation of cooling parameters.
This arduous R & D process not only successfully solved the core contradiction of ensuring plasticity under ultra – high strength, and common industry problems such as shrinkage porosity and deformation that are easy to occur in large – size and thin – walled parts, but also 锤炼 a set of mature and reliable high – end ductile iron production process control system.
